“Gone Fishing” a solo exhibition/retrospective by Wilhelm Saayman.
Wilhelm Saayman returns to Priest with a selection of recent paintings. The artist is currently fishing in the Interzone, trawling for material. Saayman has been exhibiting his inimitable character paintings and drawings since 1990. His work draws from his artistic influences, pop culture and a variety of historical personalities which he captures in awkward moments and surreal situations.
From Goya to Super Mario to Don Quixote – Willie’s gestural yet tentative paint marks and sceneries evoke anxious, inane dispositions rendering these characters an enduring, at times disruptive, expression of interchange between history, reader and artist.
