CO.FEE
A group Exhibition curated by Priest Gallery
Date: 7 June 2018 – 27 June
142 Jan Smuts Avenue, Rosebank, JHB
Participating Artists: Elias Mung’ora and Oliver Mayhew
CO.FEE marks a dialogue between two artists, an ongoing conversation between their multimedia artistic practices reflecting on the vast cultural implications of this stimulant.
This relation between coffee trade as a moral compass of Western trade in general, the experienced realities of the Coffee Industry and the rich histories of coffee production and consumption is the foundation of Oliver and Elias’s two-person show CO.FEE.
From the Artists:
“The discussion on coffee between Elias and me started with interest in coffee from Africa and the role it has played in the eco- nomics of Africa, as well as a perpetuator of “round-cupped” discussions as is noted in Persian coffee houses1. Through our ex- hibition we want to tackle the issue of industrialization of coffee in Africa, instead of current structure that exports the coffee beans internationally.”
